Clutch "squeak" when engaging in 1st gear... normal?
Hi. Lately I've noticed a very audible "squeal" (don't know how else to put it) when letting out the clutch in 1st gear. Pickup is smooth and it only does it when starting from a dead stop. There's no slippage. It doesn't do it every time (about 60% of the time to make a guess).
Clutch is an old (original) Textralia OZ700 with the original flywheel (they didnt have the aftermarket one available when I installed the clutch in 2005) + a McCloud adjustable master cylinder. Clutch has about 30000 miles on it, mostly street driving + about 75 drag passes (no powershifts). It began to squeal on engagement about 5K miles ago.
Thinking it's just an aging thing with a high-pro clutch on an iron flywheel...... but....... Any $0.02 appreciated.

I can't speak for Textralia, but, this sounds just like the clutch is either being glazed, or, because the mileage it's hitting the rivets from the disc. More than likely it's a glazed disc that needs to be "cleaned" by beating on the unit a bit and adjusting your driving habits to not slip the unit as much.
Call the guys at Textralia and go over it with them.

My SPEC 3 has almost always done that, it started after about 100 miles it would make the noise when the clutch was cold, but after a few normal take off's it seems to go away till the next morning or after work when it was cold again. If yours just started doing this after 30,000 miles and it's doing it all the time then I'd think the clutch is almost done.

Unforunetly, Its the nature of this clutch...Like posted, it glazes up some and makes that noise, slip it a few times cleans it off nicely and is quite for a while, but doesnt take long for it to start squealing again.

The greatest cause of squealing during take-off is in fact glazing. This is especially notable in higher-performance compounds with a metallic component. As mentioned, if the sound is relative to glazing then go out and get on it a bit and see if the sound diminishes. If it is glazing related it will get better.
Temperature can also lead to sound with discs using this type of disc compund. For instance, in the winter you are more likely to hear this noise than you would in the summer. This is normal and doesn't indicate any issue. That being said...get out there and drive that thing and let us know if you have any further questions. Thanks!!
