Default What brand T-56?

Im looking to so a 4L60E to T-56 swap. I have always ran an automatic for bracket racing, but I want to enjoy my car since its a daily driver so I want to buy a manual trans. I have no idea which brands are the best. My car isnt fast (bolt ons, runs 12.60s-12.80s) but eventually I would like to upgrade the engine so I would like to have my trans prepared for this! Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks!

If you want a "T-56", there's only one brand.. Tremec

If you want a "manual trans", then you have options and it all depends on your needs and your budget.

I don't think you're asking the right question though...

As Mike said, they are all Tremec or the older ones were Borg Warner. I think you are referring to the builder not the brand. 99.9% of all the builders use OEM Tremec parts and after market sourced parts for things like the billet keys, bronze fork pads and isolator cup. It comes down to experience, price, customer service and availability.

I think you are right. So I am just looking for a manuall 6-speed for an LS1. I had a friend who always referred to his as a T-56, so I assumed that was the major type (like a 4l60e for auto). So my guess was that a T-56 came in a manual ls1 car, maybe its an aftermarked 6-speed? I really have no idea now. I would like to know so Im not the village idiot.. haha

T56 is the name of the 6 speed transmission that came in all 93-02 6 speed fbodies. It was originally designed and produced by Borg Warner for various car manufacturers. It is now produced by Tremec which is exactly the same thing. My T56 has both Tremec and Borg Warner branding on it. The T56 is/was used in Aston Martins, Dodge Vipers, Mustang Cobras, Corvettes, GTO's, and a bunch of others including our cars.

The term T56 is actually the model number of the transmission. Borg Warner also had the T5 & T45.
