Default water in t56-how much damage

Crazy problem, but I had a hose burst in my garage and spray water all over the place. And of course my t56 is sitting there without the shifter on waiting to go back in the car. Not sure how much got in, had to be a quart or so. What if anything would get damaged? Is there anything I can do to help it now? flush tranny with new fluid, etc? Thanks

If it wasn't in there long (days) it shouldn't hurt anything if the trans had ATF in it.. I'd grab 8qts of cheapo ATF DexIII and fill it up, slosh it around, drain it. Repeat, but don't drain it until you're ready to install it.

Yeah it was empty when this happened, but couldn't have been in there for more than an hour or so. Craziest thing ive ever had happen to me. It was literally spraying all over my 4 cars and the trans. You think I should just fill it up and spin it over some, then drain it before installing it and then refill? Thanks for the help.

You don't even need that much atf. Loosen the drain plug to let any water in it out. Reinstall it and put 1 qrt of cheap oil in it. Stand it up on its input shaft. Roll it back and forth and then let the fluid settle. Drain it or leave it in. Once you get it installed, drain it and refill with fresh fluid. It should be fine.

You don't want to put any kind of oil in a T56. The synchros will absorb it and never fully release the oil and be ruined...

Thanks guys. I drained it, then put 1 qt of dex iii in it, sloshed it around, drained that and then put 4qts of cheap dex iii in and sloshed it around and have it sitting now until I install it. Then ill drain and refill it. Thanks for the help, ill post the results once its done.

I wasn't talking about any kind of oil. I was just saying you don't need as much as you were saying to get. 1 qrt of cheap ATF is all you really need.
