garage clutch swap
Car desperatly needs a new clutch yet talked to the local shop and want 4 bills to install. Has anyone attempted doing this in your garage? I can't justify 400 bucks to put it in. I'd rather spend that on a shifter and new slave. I've done a couple of them before but always on a lift. Anybody have any tips or tricks that would help out please let me know.

jack stands and get the car as high as possible. get a friend to help you. you can drop and lift the trans by hand with the help of a friend. im a 180lbs and got the trans out by myself wit no jack in an hour. Its a lot easier than i thought.

Yea. Agree with the ^^^^^^. It is easiest to get the bolts on the bellhousing (the 11 o clock and 1 o clock bolts) from inside the cab with some long extensions. You will use the hole in the floor for the shifter to turn the ratchet. Make sure to follow torque specs when installing new clutch, etc.

I think the biggest problem with this is if you were to let the trans hang weight down on the friction disc before the trans was in the pilot and on the dowels, you run the risk of bending/warping the disk leading to at the very least disengagement problems.

Exactly why you should use a transmission jack...it needs to be supported until it is fully bolted in place. I don't care how big/small you are...it gets tiring trying to hold that thing up on your back without a jack. This is especially important on a carbon clutch like the one I installed the last time...they can break very easily if the transmission isn't supported while being installed.
