Won't shift from 6th to 5th, shift pad problem? After missing a shift at the race track my T56 would grind and have a hard time getting into 5th gear. So this weekend I took it apart and found that I broke my shift forks off on the 5th gear side of the 5-6 shift fork. However the weird part is that the shifter will not physically go from 6th gear to 5th gear. From 4th to 5th it will go in (after some grinding). From 6th to 5th almost feels like it's being locked out, no grinding or anything. Now that the trans is apart I don't see anything wrong with it other that the shift pads. I'm also buying a new shift fork and all new syncro assemblies to be safe, but is there anything else that might be causing it? I don't see how a couple broken shift pads could stop the shifter from going from 6th into 5th. |
Mine also won't go into 5th after messing up dumping the clutch while in 3rd. And it never went 5th to 6th before that happened. No 5th sucks ass.help |
When my personal T56 wouldn't go to 5th gear I had a number of problems. My 5/6 shift fork was bent, the fork pads had cracked and fallen off and my synchro keys were broken. The transmission had a rough life to say the least. It had about 70k miles on it and 5th gear would actually work if you pushed in the clutch, let the engine idle all the way down and slowly pushed the shifter into 5th gear. Both of your issues could stem from one or more of those issues. We offer repair service on any T56 and we have great shipping rates. Just let me know if you have any more questions. |
Well I just got done rebuilding it and it seems that the broken pad was the problem. I replaced the 5-6 shift fork as well just to be safe. Either way it shifts great now! (so far anyway, it's hard to tell after 10 miles) except for the speedo and the reverse lockout aren't working..... But I'll look at the tomorrow. |
