Default How Can I Remove Chevy NV4500 Shifter ****?

Is it possible to remove the large plastic shifter **** from the end of a NV4500 shift lever (Chevy version)? I tried unscrewing it, but no joy. It's on there tight. Perhaps molded on??

The large bulbous **** is not in the same style of my 1940's truck and I'd like to replace it with something else. I kinda like how the base of the shift lever has an internal rubber bushing, and I'd prefer to keep the shift lever itself.
