Default Attention People Who Have Drilled and Tapped Shift *****

Hey guys I'm gonna put an 03-04 cobra shift **** on my shifter I want to drill out and tap the **** as my b&m shifter doesnt have a removable handle. I've seen people do it on here but I'm having trouble finding an M16X1.5 thread tap.

Does anyone know if any of their local stores like home depot, ace etc has one? I could order one off the net but besides waiting 5 days it would cost about 25 bucks for a tap I'll only use once.

Some people have suggested a 5/8-18 tap will work because the handle is plastic and the handle will basically cut into the threads on the **** but has anyone actually done that?
