Default measuring for clutch slave shims?

ok when measuring for a clutch slave shim I remove the spring from the slave, re install the t/o and push the t/o back to the limit of its travel. I have a quick question about this. do i push the t/o all the way back until the plastic rests on the metal base of the slave? does the t/o go all the way to the base or does it stop short of the base (maybe the thickness of the springs)? Thank you

ok quick question... i compared both my old slave and my new slave. When you remove the spring from the old t/o and put the t/o back on and push it down to the end of its travel it stops 1/4" short of the metal base. On the new slave when i do the same thing it goes all the way down and doest stop untill it hits the metal base.
