Default Scraping sound after 5k rpm

Hey guys i just purchased a 97 6 speed vette and when im at wot i get a scraping sound kind of like nails on a chalkboard coming from the shifter area near the clutch. I searched the forums and came up with nothing that is similar to the noise my car is making. Im guessing i need a clutch? It just seems weird because the car shifts smoothly. No slipping or anything.

any help is greatly appreciated

When does the sound occur? Specifics will help us provide better trouble shooting assistance.

It only happens at high rpms when im wide open throttle. It kinda sounds like a scrape or plastic breaking slowly, or possibly rope breaking. its hard to explain the noise.

Is there any way for you to get a sound clip to share with us? It would probably help in assessing this.
