Default Royal Purple? Is it really worth it???

Today i put my tranny back in and decided to put some good ATF so I put in some Mercon V for 3 bucks a quart then i remebered hearing that Royal purple was the way to go. So i checked out the price on that and 8 bucks a quart was there right on the price tag...

What does royal purple do that makes it such a good ATF??
Does it help making faster shifts or just increases the lifespan of your tranny?

ws.6kid- Wow! Your the first person I've heard of using Mercon V in a T-56...what made you decide to use that?

Definitely an interesting choice!

ws.6kid- I'm not knocking your decision, as I have no idea what the specs of Mercon V are....I'm just fairly certain I've never heard of anyone running it before (doesn't mean people aren't though, or that it's bad for your T-56).

How does it shift?

It shifts pretty smooth I like it... but then again i just installed a pro 5.0 shifter so the whole tranny feels good...

ws.6kid- Cool man, I'm glad it's been working for you so far!

I'd be great if you could reply a few thousand miles down the road, that way everyone would know how Mercon V (which I think, but don't know, is a synthetic or semi-synthetic) works in a 98-00 T-56.

Good future luck!

I've seen a few ATF's that said Dextron III-MerconV compatible. Valvoline durablend for instance. I'm using Redline D4 in mine, about the same price and I like it.

Royal Purple recommends the Synchromax in the T-56 transmissions.

You can use the Royal purple Max ATF in the T-56 but the Synchromax is a better fluid.

Huhhh? Why would Royal Purple recomend something else? I pulled into Amoco yesterday to fill up and the attendant told me I should go down the street to Mobil cause their gas is better. lol

I am not recommending something else. The Synchromax is one of our products.

Just a FYI, but both reports of people using Royal Purple Max ATF in T-56's that I've heard about have been negative - reports I've seen on their Synchromax product in T-56's however has been positive.

If your going the Royal Purple route, might want to avoid the Max ATF in favor of the Synchromax...JMHO.
