Default How do I identify if I have "viper" 2nd gear

I've searched for days trying to get a pic or spec of the old 2nd gear vs the new "viper" 2nd gear. I got the trans used when I swapped from A4 and not certain of the year or if it has been worked on before. I know supposedly 2000 and later have the newer gear, but I don't want to take any chances and don't want to buy one if I already have it. Is there any way to identify? I've searched this forum, googled for days, and searched internet engines from galaxies far far away and can't find an answer, pic, or spec.

quick question, looking at the lower pic, shouldn't the gear on lower left(labeled late 2 in pic) be labeled "early"? It appears the main gear teeth are not as wide as the one on the right (labeled late 1) correct?

Late 2 in the lower left has a lot of material smeared off the top. Ignore that.

Look at the groove under early 1's teeth. It had taller teeth but not as solid of structure.

Look at the solid area under late 2's teeth in both cases.

And the line tracing around each tooth on late 2's teeth again in both cases.

The middle one is the best identifying picture of the latest design.
