That T56 is maybe from a Ford or something. There are various shift positions. The Camaro/Monaro is more rearwards than that. The Viper has it at that front top plate you see in the photo.

The pic may not be easy to see, but I doubt the T5 is bigger in any dimension than a T56

Another option, ford T5 (sounds to be available over there), machined adapter plate, 621 bell housing. Several have done it with TKOs and T5s.
Here's a thread with dimensions.
You'll also need to have a pilot bearing machined or input shaft turned dowm.

I think the Cossie T5 ( ie UK fitment ) does differ slightly compared to the WC T5 in the US.

I think the Cossie input shaft is something like 1" x 23, not sure of length.

I know the ford and gm 2.95 1st gear input shafts can be swapped, as long as they're both WC or non-WC. Any chance the cosworth has a 2.95 1st gear?

I really dont understand where you can be getting a price like that ?

Simple searching yields boxes for sale for circa £600, that's sold as a good working Cossie T5.

A complete aftermarket gearset is £1100-1400, which is not really needed.

So I cannot fathom how anyone could be quoting you £2600 for a standard T5 that's been rebuilt. Especially when Real Steel are offering brand new gearboxes for less.

I good rebuilt box should be less than £1k IMO.

That £2600 would have to be for a fully built box, using all uprated internals, gears etc etc Which is likely overkill for such a light vehicle.

Again...I'd still be just phoning a US vendor and asking them to supply a kit to bolt to the LS1.
Or just buy a TR6060 and cut your legs shorter to make room for the box in the tunnel lol.

Further to that.

Gears have a fully recon T5 with straight cut gears on egay for £1000

or a fully recon box for £700

Another option, although conversion kits might be expensive.

The W-series 5 speed boxes from the 88-94 n/a Supra are pretty strong, similar to a T5. But you should be able to buy them very cheap at local breakers

This place does kits for a lot of engines http://www.conversioncomp.co.nz/

Dellow or Castlemaine Rod Shop in Australia also do a huge range of bellhousings and fitting kits.

The Strongest Toyota 5 speeds is the 5 speed turbo R154. If you can find one cheap go for it. It will handle anything you can throw at it. I used one with my twin turbo Rover V8 for years.
Only downside now, is the drift guys use them so the boxes are sought after which pushes the price up.

The W-series less so, so should be cheap.

I used one of Colin's kits ( Conversion Components in NZ ) for my R154-RV8 bought some 15 years ago ! The boxes were cheap then, and the exchange rate was good too. It's all crap now.

By time you buy it all though...

T5 or TR6060 from the US will probably still be best all rounder.
