Something's wrong...need help

Tonight on the way back from work I hit a huge pothole coming down the off-ramp of the interstate. I had the clutch pressed in when I hit the pothold, and the pedal stuck down until I could get the car into a parking lot. When I pulled up on it a little, it came free, but now it's making a popping sound when I reach the top of the pedal travel (it also catches a little when it pops), and I hear some kind of rattling sound when I turn the car off. The car will still drive, but I'm worried about it. If anyone has experienced this before, please let me know. Should I take the car to the dealer to get it looked at? It's not under warranty anymore, and I'm new to this area so I don't know who else to take it to.

Is the noise inside the car?
You might have broken the return spring on the clutch pedal.

The noise is definitely inside the car. The "pop" that the clutch pedal makes occurs at the same time I feel the pedal "catch" when you let it almost all the way out. How hard is it to fix the return spring?

I seem to recall guys breaking these before.

I don't think replacing it will be a big deal. Remove the panel under the steering column, and then probably just a pair of needle nose pliers for the spring. Shouldn't be too bad. :)

Turns out it was the return spring. I pulled the bottom of the dash off today and three pieces of spring fell out. I'm off to get a new one now; I can't believe the damn things are $40!!
