To figure out rear gears and tire size i need to know what you trap is or your race weight. as far as the trans goes i would go with the 2.66 1st gear the shift extension is much better than the 2.97 magnum, the 3-4 shift sucks with the 2.97 gearset. With 540 at the wheels and 427 ci motor that makes torque you should have no issue with the 2.66 1st gear especially with the right rear gear and tires. The 2.66 gear set is also stronger.

I dont know what trap speed yet but I'll guess 135 to 136. With 4.10 i already have in rear end, 26" will be better and eventually will go to 4.30 if needed.
I'd go 4.56 if I had to run 28" tires as it would still drive great on the street with 26" tire so my abs lights on dash would stay off

Engine made peak hp at 7600 on engine dyno.
I'd go 7800 but I'm limited with factory computer
I went through all the gears for best shift extensions.
2.66 set only won in 3rd gear to fourth shift.
I have a very broad power curve and peak tq at 575@5200 peak hp 671 at 7600 but making over 600 from 5800 up

the close ratio of the 2.66 gear set has a great shift extension, especially where it counts on the 3-4 shift. the higher the gear in the trans the slower the engine pulls so yes the wide ratio 2.97 gearset wont matter as much in 1st and 2nd, but that shift to 4th is going to bring you down to 5300rpm @ 99 mph shifting at 7600 with 4.30 gears and 26" tires. where the 2.66 3rd gear will only drop you to 5900 @ 109mph.
4.30 gear, 27" tire (assuming .5" tire growth), 2.66 gear set
