Default z33/350z transmission to LSx engine

So I posted a forum asking for help on a e36 swap lq9. I mentioned the need for a alternative to the T-56 due to cost and someone stated the z33 transmission. Whether this was a spelling error or truly what they intended, it got me thinking. Now after watching many videos of how clutches work and how they connect to the engine, I've got sort of a idea of how this possibly would work.

So obviously a adapter would be necessary, and thats as simple as machining a thick piece of medal with holes/studs in the corresponding spots to the bellhousing of the z33 and the lq9 engine and then cutting out a spot for the starter. Now this is where I get lost.

The shaft from the z33 is 24 spline 1in shaft, atleast according to 350z clutch kits on summit racing. Now the stock lsx has a 11in diameter flywheel. So find a 24 spline 1in input with 11in diam. clutch and use the stock flywheel with a upgraded pressure plate, right? Well I cant seem to find any 1in input shafts for anything larger than 10in. So could i get a 10in clutch? Would the pressure plate have troubles engaging the clutch? and would the clutch have troubles making contact with the flywheel? I could get a flywheel like seen here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/XTR-HD-FLYWHEEL-CORVETTE-Z06-LS6-CAMARO-FIREBIRD-FORMULA-TRANS-AM-GTO-5-7L-LS1-/400495201043?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item5d3f5fcb13&vxp=mtr
That way theirs a wider surface area so that a smaller clutch could grab on to it still. But im still worried about the pressure plate pushing down in the correct areas with a smaller clutch and whether it would induce wear or not. So what do you guys think? Is there someway to convert the input shaft? Looking for some help from some savvy transmission geniuses

Could I just drill a new bolt pattern for a smaller flywheel pressure plate from a 350z clutch kit on the above flywheel like seen in this video:

and then from there just use the adapter plate like a big washer, to get the right length for the input shaft?

I could go into all the detail and explain how you may or may not be able to do all this, but here is the bottom line: by the time you get it all worked out, you will probably have more money into it than getting a T56 and it won't be as durable.

Deals on T56s are out there. I just picked up a 2002 f-body T56 with 14K miles for $1600 locally.

See but I can ****** a 55k z33 for 300. That's the thing. And yes I may have more money into it by the end, or be right about where a t56 would have cost me in the first place, and ultimately have the weaker trans, but I don't have to worry about breaking it as much as its such a cheap replacement and easy sourcing Parts for it.

You don't want to do it right, but you don't mind doing it over and over again? LOL

The main issue I see with the Nissan transmissions in general is the integral bell housing. Even if you make an adapter, the other main issue is that the LS uses a giant 168 tooth (almost 15" diameter) flywheel. This will never fit inside the Nissan bell. The disk spline is the least of your worries, since any competent custom clutch company can set you up with a 11" disk with the right spline.

I understand the need to be frugal, but I think you are being penny wise and dollar foolish here.

First, what ratios are in the other box. Getting outside the 2.97 or 2.66 first gear ratio gears in 1-4 may cost drivability or speed.

Putting the stronger engine in isn't fun if it has truck-like ratios.

Instead of chasing a swap piece and its inherent troubles and costs to improve the vehicle, you just said you are willing to cost yourself more for no tangible gain. $1300 is easy to blow through when you have multiple characteristics to work around. And you do here.

If you cant even figure out the most simple task of buying a friction disc to suit...how are you going to manage the difficult task of physically bolting the engine to the box ??

Just contact any clutch specialist, eg http://clutchnet.com/

and ask them to make you a 11" disc, whatever thickness and material you want, with whatever spline section you want.

It really doesnt get any easier.

Look up collins adapter. He is the only company that make one so far. As far as technicalities goes ask him. Hes not really answering to my questions though so customer service kinda suck. I was thinkingof going that route as well but no company can make a custom transmission mount for it. So if youre good at making custom stuff, i would say go for it. The cd0009 is a great trans.
