Default Dot 3 or dot4 fluid for master cylinder

I'm getting ready to install a tick master cylinder in my 99 trans am and I wasn't sure which fluid to use. On the reservoir it says to fill with dot 3 but I have seen post with people talking about filling with dot4. What is the difference and which one should I use?

You can always use a higher dot rating it won't hurt... Actually the higher the better they hold up to heat. I use a dot 5 that crotch rocket guys use. You can buy it at your local honda dealer.

You do mean a DOT 5.1, correct?

I just use the Ate Typ 200, one of the highest wet/dry boiling point, non pure racing fluid, DOT 4s out there, and it is just $15.00 a liter, as compared to the $35.00+ for the HALF liters of the pure racing fluids.

Motul RBF600 here. Great stuff but expensive as hell. $20 for 500mL. If you're going to bleed use the cheap Prestone stuff then use the good stuff when the bubbles are gone, I learned the hard (expensive) way
