Default Clutch dosn't work when hot

LS1 -T56 from an 02 Camaro, LS6 clutch and flywheel, but using the LS1 slave and a Wilwood master.

Everything works perfect on the street as a daily driver for 15,000 miles. Then I did a track day and by lap 3 when everything get hot the clutch just didn't work. It's hard to push the pedal in and when it got to the floor the clutch was not engaged. Once it cooled down everything was back to normal.

I put a new master and slave in it, put 1500 street miles on it with no issues and back to the track. Same thing.

Any idea?

clutch fluid getting too hot, maybe ?

I thought about that. Like maybe the fluid was boiling or something but I would think that would make is spongy and the pedal is harder to push to the floor.

It acts like the hydraulics can't overcome the force of the clutch but why temp would do that I can't figure.

The track I run is a 2.25 mile road course and I usually run the first 2 laps all in 4th then when I start to push shift to 3rd and back to 4th once per lap. But but after a couple more laps of that I have no clutch.

I can sure insulate the lines but I am just stumped as to what is happening.

I've had my headers wrapped and a DEI sleeve over the clutch lines. Has worked well for me.

There's no guarantee but it certainly can't hurt.

I wonder if the heat from the track is expanding the self adjusting mechanism on the stock PP, which stiffens up the fingers. Then, as it cools, the adjuster relaxes, and the clutch starts acting normal.

It may be that you need to vent your bell housing to correct it.

Thanks! I was kind of thinking along the same lines as both of you. The new mustangs have a little scoop under the bell housing that acts as a trans cooling and I was thinking about making something like that to dump air into the bell housing. Also looking at a heat sheld or wrap for the clutch lines. My headers are wrapped and there is a fair amount of space in there but a lot of heat too!

Nope down in the SW corner, 30 miles from Iowa and 45 miles from South Dakota.

I wasn't thinking headers as much as engine and trans heat from running harder.

There was a thread where someone showed how to vent their bell housing, and it apparently made a big difference to their clutch. I can't remember how old it is, but it is in the manual transmission section.

Also, if you are using a stock type clutch, may need to go monster or McLeod to get rid of the adjustable plate.
