Default Seized t56, re using carbon syncro's

Had a 'small' issue with my transmission, rear oil seal came out at 125mph, lost all the oil and transmission seized.

I have a spare transmission of which I 'll use all the internals, have a set of bearings, seal, clips,... on order.

My question is, the seized transmission had only a couple of 1000 miles on it, and was rebuilt with carbon syncro's, would I be ok re using these? As you'll see in the pictures there was some pretty serious heat damage, the carbon rings look OK though, no discoloration or nothing, look like new.

That's impressive. I probably wouldn't reuse the rings though.

As long as you werent changing gear too often when there was no oil in it, they probably should be ok.

Think about it: you re-heat treated everything in that box. Or , actually, tempered the heat treat out.I wouldnt use them.

Yes, but the blockers dont actually do anything at all until you try and select a particular gear.

A new set of blockers are a few hundred. I would use a set of new blockers.

This. As long as they aren't glazed over, there should be nothing wrong with them.

Default Seized t56, re using carbon syncro's

They might be ok. But that main shaft got ridiculously hot. If the heat treat was compromised, they may have weakened where the slider keys ride. For the cost of new vs having to tear completely down again to replace a failed blocker, it's a no brainer to me. I personally wouldn't risk using anything from that main shaft.

Thanks for the info guys, I tore down the spare T56 I have and the internals look perfect, the syncro's look identical to the carbon syncro's from the seized trans.

Can you visually differentiate the old paper vs the carbon blocker? I have a suspicion that the blockers in my spare trans were already carbon ones.

As for the cost, I live in Belgium, so when you add shipping and taxes everything starts getting real expensive real quick :-).
