I've managed a couple 1.7's, but as you can imagine, getting off the line in a stiffly sprung, light weight car with too much camber wasn't the most ideal setup. Gonna go after 10's in the spring with less(no) camber and a taller tire.

Did you build this thing for drag racing, or for handling (even with the big LSx lump up front), and just want to see "what she will do" in the 1/4, despite the road race type suspension??

A little of everything. I just build it to be a well rounded, fun street car.

Also, I believe the difference between the 8 cylinder lump and the stock 4 cylinder one is about 40 lbs. Most of the weight was picked up from the T56 and 3" duals...so about the same as having a passenger in the car. A small price to pay for an additional 350hp/tq over stock :)

Good thread scotty.....good info redbird.

I love my 5.5 tilton set up. Ive been running it since late 07. It weighs 17-18lb complete.

Rise of the Phoenix 10-06-2015 12:22 PM

What's the price tag on the Tilton setup?

How does it drive on the street? Easy to modulate? Is yours the triple as well?

The Spec Super Twin is 10" btw. I've been running one in my swap for the better part of 4 years / 20K miles. No issues at all. No shims. No balancing. Just bolted it on. Easy to modulate after a couple hours of practice.

Do you have a in car vids with this clutch installed?

COOL! (MUCH cooler than the old small blocks, Ford 302s, or even the latter, iron block LT1s most seem to throw into those go karts!)

But that HAD TO BE an iron block 4 pot, correct??

Do they still use iron blocks , even in the new one?

I used to work for ptg bmw team. So we were cleaning house and i paid nothing for my tilton. I did have to buy the button, auto flexplate, qtr master hydraulic release bearing to make it work. Thise cost around $600 back in 07. The car drives fine. These are torquey engines. No need to rev the shit out of it to get goin.

Wow, that drives terrible... How on earth do you deal with that light clutch? :jest:

redbird555 10-07-2015 10:55 AM

That ones of cf is expensive because it's a carbon setup.hios is sintered iron or something similar iirc and costs under 1k.

My new setup is out for delivery on the ups truck now so I'll post up pictures when I finally get it

Did you get the SPEC "X" trim or the "D" trim?

Once I actually stopped and thought about what you guys were telling me about rotational weight, it made me think totally different about my new set up. Quite simple but frequently overlooked IMO. :thinker:

I got the d trim. There's actually only 2 clutches the r trim normally comes with a lighter flywheel while the d is heavier. But in ls cars they only make 1 flywheel so the r and the d are the same. The x-trim is a triple disk idk if the fractions are any different however. Hios buddy ran one but I suspect because of the 3 disks it's going to be harsher than the twin disk d trim

2 Attachment(s)
