Default T56 clutch woes!

Hey Gang, I'm helping a friend with a LS/T56 swap on his 66 Chevelle.

We are having one hell of a time with the clutch. We can not get it to disengage so the car will not go into any gear with the motor running.

Transmission is an 04 GTO T56 with supposedly stock clutch and pressure plate.
master and slave are stock F-body. Master was just swapped for a Tick performance F body master.

We pulled the transmission again and double checked the slave cylinder measurements and installed the smallest shim to get us a bit more within spec.

Bled the system completely (we have the speed bleeder on it) and began adjusting the new Tick master cylinder. We actually ran out of adjustment, I did manage to barely get the car into 1st gear, but that's it! Still no luck.

I thought for sure the Tick master would fix this issue after reading about how crappy the F-body master cylinders are.

Has anyone run into anything like this at all? We are a bit stumped now.

I don't believe the clutch can even be installed backwards on the LS can it?

Here are a couple pics while we had the transmission out. Does the disc look correct?

Thanks!

What do you mean by "a bit more within spec"? How much is it out of spec? I had to put .100" behind my slave if I recall. Are you 100% sure you measured it correctly and you are shimming it to within specs?

There are only a few things that can cause the problem you are describing. 1) it is not shimmed correctly and you are not disengaging the clutch 2) there is air in the lines due to not being bled correctly or a bad part and you cannot get enough pressure to disengage the clutch.

Did you compress the slave when you measured? If not, that's the issue. The slave is fully extended by the spring.

Specs call for .125 to .200. We were on the higher side of .200 so we installed the .055 shim to put us at .145.

We did remove the spring and compress the slave completely for total clearance.

We've pulled it all out again. This time we pulled the clutch as well and it was installed correctly. He is going to order a new clutch and pressure plate setup since it's the only real unknown.

Got another, thicker shim to try?
I would have done so.

I know this is an old thread, but did the new clutch and pressure plate solve it, or did you find the issue? I have what seems to be the exact same issue.
