Default Strange plug/slug in T56

Picked up a used mn12 t56, started to tear it down to check it out and found a strange plug thing inside the tailshaft housing where the shift block is.
Magnets look decent, typical wear shavings but no big chunks.
Any chance this was left in after manufacturing?

Also, what color rtv would they have used originally to seal it? Trans supposedly had 80k miles and hasn't been opened up.

Any help is appreciated!

Not sure what that plug is. Is it rubber?
Factory RTV is black.

Not rubber. Some sort of metal, will just barely pull when I put near magnet. Probably about an 1/8th in thick. Everything is clean inside tranny so far, actually looks really good.
And it was sealed with black rtv, maybe this was just left from factory? I would really hope they had better QC than that though.
