T-56 input shaft play/noise (with video)
Hello all, I have a thread going about a vibration that I got after installing a LS7 clutch and flywheel setup (https://ls1tech.com/forums/cadillac-...stic-post.html).
I had the setup balanced and I still have the vibration and noise. I wanted to get opinions if the noise from my input shaft is normal or not. I'll be taking the transmission to a shop on Monday. But still wanted to ask you guys. There is only a little bit of play side to side and zero play if you try to pull it in and out. Thanks!

There's no spec for side-to-side play on the input shaft. They wobble a bit, and that vid looks like what I've seen. The endplay on the input shaft is (one of) the critical spec(s), and it should be minimal at 0.000" to .002".
Looks ok to me. Maybe someone with more experience will chime in.

It was modified for the C6 slave. I probably ground down more than I should. The third time that I installed the trans back onto the bellhousing from chasing the vibrations, it broke off. So that kind of sucked. But didn't change any of the issues that I'm having.

These transmissions have 2 indexing dowel pins on the front plate that are critical to the alignment of the transmission to the crankshaft. If you do not have them in place, you are going to experience all types of issues.

That part broke off the last time that I installed the transmission. It was on there the two prior installations and aligned properly and had the same exact vibrations. But I'm going to see if the transmission shop can weld it back on in the right place since I can't weld aluminum.

I had the transmission and input shaft checked out at a transmission specialist that is very familiar with T-56's and he said that everything looked good. I'm also having a fabrication shop located next door to them to weld the broken piece back on. So that'll be good again.
