LS6 or LS7 clutch for my T56 swapped truck?

Hey guys,

I've got a 6.0 liter and T56 almost swapped into my 2001 S10. I've been planning to buy the LUK 04-905 LS7 setup since the truck will be primarily street driven. No plans for regular 1/4 mile drag racing but I do plan to autocross it some.

With that in mind, would you guys go with the LUK 04-173 LS6 package instead?

I'm probably only going to be at around 475 HP at the motor and the truck will hopefully be about 3200 pounds without driver. The main reason I'm asking is reading about shift lockout problems with the LS7 package.

Any advice will be much appreciated.

I run the LUK 04-905 in the LS powered, T-56 trans, A-body wagon in my avatar...

I toiled over this also...so far I couldn't be happier with the 04-905. It acts just like a factory clutch should...I haven't pulled any full power, 6500 rpm shifts, but have done some spirited driving and it has worked flawlessly.

It's heavy...but it moves my 4000 lb wagon from a stop effortlessly...

There will be someone along that will not be happy with it's weight, or self adjusting feature. But for a street replacement clutch, it works very well for me.

Thank you. I emailed Steve at Monster Clutch earlier with some questions as well.

If anyone here has a link to a good explanation of why self adjusting clutches are bad that would be great.

When I read stuff on forums I look at it like this. Consider how many people run a ls7 clutch that are completely happy verse the small percentage that you hear bitch about them.

I agree with you on this. Even when searching this forum you see a lot of posts by the same few people saying the LS7 clutch is bad.

I'm gonna go with the LUK 04-905 for $243 off Amazon. I'm guessing that any problems with it will show up pretty quick so I can probably sell it used for at least half of that.
