T56 or t56 magnum?
What would you guys do? I have a t56 stock currently that needs rebuild. Will be doing a 416 build that will be n/a, should I get a t56 magnum or rebuild my core I have now? Power wise will a stock t56 hold up? Also will a ls7 clutch hold up since this is a street car.

If just a street car a freshly built T56 and a new clutch will be handle the cruiser but if your gonna making sticky burnouts and hard launches you best beef up the whole drive line.

Should be a beast on the street.

A lightweight n/a car shouldnt pose any trouble to a stock T56
But it's an old trans.....harder to get parts for etc. Just depends on your budget and what total cost for each will be

Strength wise the rebuilt T56 will be fine.... however as you have heard and will continue to hear there is NO COMPARISON to how smoothly a T56 Magnum will shift.
If you can find a CTSv or ZL1 TR6060 they are the same gear ratios and will shift super nice as well. They will be cheaper; however you do need a $1K CV style driveshaft to make them work and the shifter is a bit funky... plus the slave cylinder costs 2-3x as much. Do not get the standard Camaro SS TR6060 as the ratios are awful for a 2700lb swap.
In the end the T56 Magnum may cost a little more; however comes with a warranty and is NEW.

Do remember that the Magnum is NOT a drop-in replacement for the T56. You will need a modified or new driveshaft to deal with the longer transmission. And you will need to deal with the fact that the Magnum places the shifter about 3-4 inches forward compared to the T56 location. The driveshaft issue will cost around $200-$400 to remedy. And depending on the application, shifter relocation ranges from a mild issue to a VERY difficult and/or costly one. Think before using a Magnum. Rebuilding your T56 may or may not be the better choice.
