T56 issue

Hi guys. My T56 is giving me some fits. It started to grind a little when shifting into 4th gear. This is on a 2002 Z28. Now on top of that, if I shift into 4th, it wont let me down shift to 3rd. I either have to up shift to 5th or down to 2nd before I can go back into 3rd. The car only has 69k miles. Any ideas? Thinking the shift fork is bent possibly? Also I'm getting ready for thsi fall to tear this thing down and build a boosted stroker motor. Should I invest money on sending the T56 away to have it beefed up or go another route? Thanks for any help.

Forgot to add that I'm building this for more fun than anything. It may see the track a few times a year, but will spend most of its time on the street. Thanks

3-4 fork is a likely candidate. Upgrade to the steel fork

may not be your only problem but having the T56 gone through will deal with issues like worn syncros if they are contributing to the problem

If the fork is the only problem when you pull it apart a rebuild with new synchros should be fairly cheap and get you a good feeling trans. If you start replacing a lot of hard parts the cost of a magnum starts to not seem so crazy. In retrospect I wish I had just swapped to a magnum instead of the rebuild.

If you have the $$$ the Magnum is a great transmission. You can swap it into a 4th Gen Fbody by simply shortening the driveshaft with a new 31 spline yoke and either modifying the provided shifter or buying an aftermarket one for the 3" of setback needed.

Looked hard at the magnum. Also looking hard at the "viperized" build from tick performance. Trying to decide which way to go.

i thought to fit in fbody you must use a fbody tail on the magnum. You couldn’t run the magnum as is out of the box?

Thats seems to be the case with a true magnum. Others are offering versions that are a bolt in. 6060 from tick comes to mind.

That is what I thought, and that setup is 4k ish. What GNX7 is saying is that may a normal 3k magnum will work with a shortened driveshaft. I never heard that before so that's why I was asking.

I also thought that in order to run it in an fbody you had to run one of the magnums that are set up with the fbody tailshaft and unfortunately the cheapest i have seen for those is just under 4k from d&d performance
