Default T56 won't go into reverse when cold

2002 Firehawk with 22k miles can't get into reverse on cold starts and forward gears seem stiffer then usual. Once car is warm it will go into reverse but I have to muscle it in. What could be wrong? Thanks folks.

your issue is typical to failing hydraulics or ones that need bleeding.

you have "disengagement" issue. To confirm, jack rear end up so tires are off the ground, best to set car on jack stands. Start car, put in frst keeping clutch fully depressed. Do rear tires rotate?

if so the clutch is not fully disengaging due to hydraulics either bad or just need bleeding (although that is a sign of a leaking slave or MC)

reverse is typically the first gear that shows this as it is not a syncro gear. Continued use will wear the syncros of the other gears

Turns out McLeod master cylinder took a dump. Replacing it with a Tick. Hopefully that solves my issues.

This has happened to many of us. New slave? If so, did you get a GM slave?

I'm not sure if it is new or not. I bought the car used. It has a rps twin disk clutch so I'm assuming it was replaced. I will be getting a new GM one. Anything else I should replace while the Trans is out?

Just make sure you have a good shifter and you should be all set!

I would check out the pilot bushing/bearing while the trans is out.

Even tho it's a money thing you should always do both. If one is failing the other isn't fare behind OR the new one will blow out the old one. I bought GM master/slave, I figured if the original lasts 17 yrs it's pretty good
