Default Which flywheel is best monster 18lb or 28lb?

Yes, the question that has two sides to it. But I have my doubts, I have a lq4 stock crank,k1 h beam rods, and forged wiseco pistons, tfs 550 kit, and fast 102/102. Puts out 525 rwhp. I'm going with a monster stage 3 kit, but I'm having trouble choosing between the 18lb flywheel or the 28lb flywheel, does anyone have experience with the 18lb from monster , I know what a 28lb flywheel feels like, but on a 425rwhp-ish ls1.does the 18lb feel any different, it's not that much lighter so I don't expect to rev any higher but im not sure, also I'm using the car mostly on the street racing, grocery getter, and some track days as well

FWIW, two of my friends and I all have the same LS7 clutch with the difference being our flywheels. My two friends have steel 27lb. flywheels and I have a 16.5lb. aluminum flywheel. I can’t say that I notice any difference whatsoever between the three cars when driving. I was nervous at first about the lighter flywheel but now wish I had an even lighter setup given I have not experienced any drawbacks whatsoever. The Monster clutch kit with 28lb. flywheel weighs more than a stock LS1 clutch kit so I would personally opt for the 18lb. flywheel to drop the weight below stock. Just my .02

Thanks, leaning toward the 18lb, does it bog down at all? Ive heard that can happen...

I experience no bogging at all. I heard the same and it was part of what initially made me nervous. I think the overall weight of the entire clutch kit is more of driver of bogging and such than just the weight of the flywheel itself.

Depends on the application, I prefer the heavier flywheel because when drag racing it helps keep the inertia of the engine stay in upper rpm between shifts. Street car and highways pulls etc I'd go with the lighter flywheel.

The lighter you go the more aggressive the car is going to drive.

Agreed i'm going to be using for autocross/road racing....I might go to the drag strip maybe 3 times a year, so the light weight fw is best for my application

I ran the 18lb on my 2001 in sig with Monster's stage 2 clutch. Personally I don't care about drag racing. This was my DD / Highway Hero.
The 18# was absolutely perfect.

I love pairing 11-12lb aluminum flywheels with clutches From a stop they need a little more throttle....

They do rev like a ****.... unless your granny is driving your car from time to time.... you don't believe you have a performance car and want 100% stock driveability with lethargic accelleration..... you should maybe stick with the 28lb behemoth.

I like aggressive rides lol, my brother had an 11lb twin disk in his cammed ls1,I don't mind bliping the throttle a little more it was nice, but it reved up a tad to fast, do you think the 18lb would be in the middle of the 11-28??
