Default Fbody T56 Magnum Shifter Part Number?

Hi all,

Within the next couple of months, I'll be starting my journey of stuffing an LS376/430 into my NC Miata. I've got nearly everything ordered, but I don't have the shifter yet, and I'm looking for something that'll have a throw similar to the 6MT that I have now. I don't want it to be too stiff (as I consider the MGW, having driven a friend's), and I'd like it to have more throw. One thought that I had is to simply use the shifter assembly that comes with the T56 Magnum (fbody tailshaft), as I've heard that it has less slop than the original T56 shifters. I'll most likely be cutting the shift lever I'm receiving and creating my own threads with a die to get it to be the right height.

Could anybody potentially compare the T56 and T56 magnum stock shifters, and provide a part for the latter? I'm having trouble sourcing the T56 magnum shifter without the tailshaft attached.

Thanks in advance, and good to be here!

T56 is a 4 bolt base plate for the shifter and the T56 Magnum is a 6 bolt style..... MGW doesn't make a shifter for it.

You can do one of 3 things for the proper setback:
1- modify existing provided shifter $
2- buy the American Powertrain White Lightning shifter $$ (allows adj tension via allen screws)
3- buy the Sikky shifter $$$$

The stock shifter does have good feel; however over time the rubber boot under the base plate will tear.

Get the TUET11009 version (2.66) as it has the best gear ratios for performance.

My apologies, I should have specified: I have a T56 Magnum with an Fbody tailshaft on the way.

Anybody know the part number of the shifter assembly? Still can't seem to find it.

I did a bit more research, turns out I'm just dumb, and my post makes no sense. Can't put a T56 Magnum shifter assembly on an Fbody tailhousing, as gnx7 alluded to.

I've been doing a lot of reading, and it seems like all of the popular options might not fit my preference very well. The MGW (which is the only one that I've actually driven, on the exact trans I'll be getting, in the exact same generation of Miata), Pro 5.0, and Hurst Billet Pro all seem to have very, very short throws, and pretty stiff centering springs. I don't plan to be

The B&M Ripper seems like it'd be the best bet in regards to feel, throw distance and stiffness. The only issue is that it appears to use a one-piece shift rod that would likely need to be cut down and rethreaded to maintain a factory-level shifter height in my car. That is, of course, unless I can reach out to them and ask for a custom rod length and thread pitch; anybody have any experience with that?

You originally said you had a Magnum with an FBody tailshaft ?

So you dont have this, you just have a stock Magnum ?

Until people know what you have, it's impossible to say what you might need.

Man, now you're confusing me a little bit.. Haha.
I suppose I could have phrased the original post better; I did purchase a T56 Magnum transmission designed for an Fbody. I bought it from D&D Performance - they refer to it as the BA79 (http://www.ddperformance.com/ba79-ch...6-t-56-magnum/). These do not come with an attached shifter assembly, unless you go with the Pro 5.0 that they offer for an additional charge.

So for fitment purposes...you just need a shifter for a regular T56 FBody.

Dont mention magnum as that will just confuse.

Did they have that box in stock, or did they convert upon request ?

I'll probably be buying one from them soon

Duly noted!

They're building it for me; that setup fits best with my chassis, and a friend that inspired me to build my car this way has the same trans from the same place.

Update:

I've decided that I'm going to go with the B&M shifter. Time and time again people have mentioned that it retains more "throw" than other popular options such as the MGW, Hurst Billet Pro, Pro 5.0, etc.

On top of that, the centering spring isn't supposed to be so stiff that it's to the level of the MGW, though it'll have considerably less slop compared to the stock T56 shift assembly.

Now, I just need to measure how far down the T56 Magnum sits in my buddy's LS376/480-swapped NC1 Miata, and take the shifter to a machine shop to get it cut down to size and with the proper thread pitch.
