Just ordered a Ram 3 powergrip clutch kit
 

Any does anyone have any comments on the clutch? Proper break in, what to expect? I got the kit from new era performance and I am gonna order a updated slave as well. Should I get a new throwout bearing too?

Just installed one in my brother's '00 TA WS6.

No chatter, nice pedal pressure (not very stiff at all) and great engagement.

He's gonna break it in w/stop-n-go driving for about 800 miles and then flog it.

Mine was real nice untill about 100 miles,then it took concentration to take off without chatter.At around 500 miles later it returned to the stock takeoff feel without chatter.I like the firm pedal.Great clutch.

I've been searching and I'm reading that I need to get an adjustable master cylinder and that my engagment will be all messed up if I don't. Is this true? I already have an 01+ drilled master that I put it only last year.

Yes, you need an adjustable master.

You also need to order, from Ram, their shim they now make that goes behind the slave. It's a steel piece that helps alleviate high RPM shifting issues that some have had. It's $11.00 + shipping.

Well I've been searching more and an adjustable master ISNT absolutly needed. A lot of people seem to use the stock one with no problems. But if I am wrong, I'll find out the hard way. Thanks for telling me about the shims as well. What's Ram's website so that I can order it.

I used a new stock master and did the drill mod,no shim either.I got lucky,maybe,but the engagement and 6500 rpm gear changes are perfect.I talked to Mike at Ram and he never mentioned a shim and said a stock master "would probably" work.

Ok but where do I get these shims. The ram site mentions nothing about them.

Bump. Are shims needed yes or no? Seems to be a split anwser. And if I do need them, where do I get them? Ram sites doesn't mention them.

I didn't get a shim with mine and it is working great.

I installed my Ram Powergrip and billet flywheel on my '02 Z28 with stock hydraulics and no shims. Engagement height was perfect. Clutch had no chatter at first, but them developed some. I'm now at about 600 miles and the chatter seems to be going away. I spoke with a Ram tech and he told me that there was no need to break it in.

I Have The Stage 4 Powergrip W/ram Billet Flywheel. I Am Using The Stock Master And The Updated Slave. No Shims Or Spacers And Its Working Great.

Ok I'll just put the clutch in and see what happends. I'll update you all.

Any update? I just started having hydraulic problems with my Powergrip. Not sure if the lack of a shim would show an immediate problem or a delayed problem.

Do you have the stock flywheeel and has it been turned ? The shim really isn't necessary unless you have turned the flywheel , it just helps correct the catchpoint geometry because when you turn the flywheel you move the pressure plate forward , being that the slave and throwout bearing assembly is mounted on the tranny , it works better when it is also shimmed forward a bit to make up for it . If you are using the ram steel billet flywheel , you should not need the shim .
