Help me decide between Alum./Steel Flywheel!
I have heard good and bad about the Alum. flywheel. Does the engine seem to rev quicker with the Alum. flywheel? How bad is the bog people talk about with the Alum? Which one is better for using NOS? Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Help me decide between Alum./Steel Flywheel!
I have had both.
Steel:
-Much easier to launch
-Quick off the line
-Heavy as all hell (pick it up when its out)
Aluminuminuminum:
-Launches like crap
-1000 to 2300 rpm useless
-Lightweight
-The car is a banshee at 3500+ rpm
-Reving is much quicker
The first thing that I noticed after putting on the aluminum flywheel is that the car is really hard to get going from a stop, so daily driving gets compromised (depending on how light you go). The car does rev a little quicker, but the real advantages of the aluminum flywheel you will only see at a road track. Even then it is not that significant, noticeable, but not significant.
If you don't race a lot, I wouldn't get it. To see any real significant changes in rev speed (if you want it sound like a race machine) you have to go reeeeaal light for our cars, too light for street driveability.

Re: Help me decide between Alum./Steel Flywheel!
Thanks guys, what I am thinking of doing is running an Alum. one for a while because of my rearend. I still have the stock unit. Running heads/cam/intake/NOS I'm afraid a hard launch will do me in. So until I have the cash for a 12 bolt Moser I'll run the Alum. The car is definatly not a daily driver so I'm not worried about that. I was sure surprised on how light the T-56 is. I took it out last week and it's really not that heavy.....

just get a steel flywheel , i have the alu. one and i hate it . i launch at 3k rpms and i bog , any higher and i spin . the line between boging and spining is soooo thin , it's almost impossible to get a good launch.

Exactly! Thats is why I got rid of my Hays 15lb aluminum flywheel also. Great mod if you never drag race though.
