1st to 2nd shift issue.. synchros or shifter?
I'm not extremely knowledgable on how the synchros work, so I don't know if their relate to my problem.
I have an 01 Z28 T56-tranny
The previous owner installed a shortshifter (not sure of the brand)
Often times when I go to shift from first to second it wants to slide into 4th. To avoid it I have to somewhat double clutch and really yank the shifter to the left and into 2nd gear. A friend told be to try letting out of 1st w/o releasing the clutch pedal wait a slight second, then shift into 2nd. When I do this it seems to be much better, but there still seems to be a little resistance.
I hope this doesn't sound like a dumb question. does anyone have any ideas?

Not to ask a stupid question, but it not the CAGS/skip shift feature kicking in is it? Does the car have a skip shift eliminator on it?
Does a skip shift light illuminate on the dash when it does this?

try shifting above 2,500 RPMs a few times (I think that's where it turns off) from 1st to 2nd... if it goes in nice and smooth, your Skip-shifter or CAGS are in effect and what's closing the gate into 2nd... a simple solenoid can fix this... www.WS6store.com - look in Transmission electronics... buy any one you like... they just have different price tags - all work the same...
