Default F & Y body tranny differences

What are the differences between the F and Y body transmissions? Are the cases the same? How about the internals? I would imagine either the input or output shafts are different.

I guess what I am getting at will a tranny from a C5 bolt into a F-body with slight changes?

On another note, will a tranny from an LS1F bolt to an LT1F? I know the bellhousings and hydrolics are different, but are the trannys themselves?

Thanks for any info!

first LS1 :The internals are different C to F so the internals do not swp. The cases are common. The adapers(end plates) are different as well as the extension castings. The inputs are the same length but since the synchros are different , they are not interchangeable. LS1to LT1 : front plate, input gear(LENGTH), clutch housing ( BOLT PATTERN), and slave cylinder( INTERNAL vs EXTERNAL).

Thanks for the info, but I don't know if that helps me or not!

To quit beating around the bush, I have a chance to buy (dirt cheap) a built T56 out of a 01 ZO6, but it's got something broke in it. Would it bolt into my LT1 F-body? If I had to swap front plates or extension housings, that wouldn't be a problem, if it could be done. I don't have a tranny-mounted torque arm anymore.

Do more research....Your LT1 application will require a change of:
inputgear
front adapter
extension housing
mainshaft
at least to use any Y-car box. I dont think its quite the deal it may appear.
