Weight. The lighter aluminum flywheels are usually the choice for road racing where stopping and starting aren't issues and you want to build revs fast out of corners. Billet flywheels are the best steel option (better than cast) and work best for street applications where you stop and go frequently.

No matter what, you should upgrade the flywheel over the stock one in a performance application. Both peices are stronger than stock, and both are SFI approved.
