clutch Replacement
Anyhow, My car has 52,000 on the clock and I'm wondering if it's getting time to replace the clutch. I've heard people say around 60-70,000 is about time but I've also read a few posts people get up in the 80s and sometimes as low as the 40s, but I assume that they are driving it realllll hard.
This is my first manual car so I wouldn’t' even know what the signs are for a clutch going bad. Once in awhile, blue moon, the car pops out of 3rd gear, but it hasn’t happened in a few months. But every so often more frequently I feel third gear grab earlier before I totally release the clutch, and the obviously the car jumps. This only happens when I'm going slow though.
Like I said I have never had a manual so I don’t know what to look for. Also for asking is I got a buddy coming down to Charlotte next month who’s done 2 clutch jobs. If my clutch is getting near the end of it’s life I would like to have him help me replace it, before it ***** the bed.
So any help you could give me in figuring out if my clutch is going bad or an estimate of when I should be looking to replace would be a help
Thanks

As for when to replace the clutch. You replace the clutch when it starts to slip or fails to release. Here's the simple is it time for a new clutch test.....
Low speed, 6th gear.
Keep your foot off the clutch pedal.
Full throttle and hold.
Watch the RPMs, they should rise smoothly as speed rises.
If you see a jump in RPM your clutches is slipping and due to be replaced.
Longevity of the clutch is almost always tied to the way it's driven. Have someone dumping the clutch, riding the pedal, over reving the engine on shifts and you're gonna tear through a clutch. It's not uncommon to see guys that don't abuse their clutch get 80k+ miles out of em.
