WARNING SPEC parts and customer service...
(I am writing this for another local GTO owner.)
Just to let everyone know a local owner put a SPEC 2 plus clutch and billet steel flywheel in his 2005 GTO. He is a local GM tech with 10 plus years of experience. After installing everything properly (verified by an outside dealer the car went too.) the ring gear came off the flywheel causing it to rip one of the rear engine cover bolts out from the inside causing it to put a hole in the block. (pics below).
SPEC has refused to stand behind their product's failure. I won't go into details about the what was said between the 2 parties because there is going to be a lawsuit pending, but I will say that SPEC would not call him back until a local service manager called them first.
You guys can look at this picture and make up your own minds. This is just a warning to all of you who are considering buying anything from this company.

sucks to see this happen to anybody.
my spec has worked great (flywheel, PP, clutch) for several years now and a lot of abuse with slicks. i've relined the disk once but all is well.
hopefully this kind of failure is isolated

Made 8 passes this weekend on slicks, dumping at 6000 nailing 1.7X 60's. Not even a hiccup.
That sucks.

I have a spec3. Spraying a 125 wet shot for well over a year with no issues. Granted my tranny is getting a rebuild because of the person that installed it forgot to put the shim in behind the slave cylinder, and that in turn pretty much destroyed my 3rd and 4th.But even without that, it hasnt slipped or hiccuped yet.

As far as their products... I have a SPEC stage 2 in my 2000 Trans Am and it is fine. Granted, ive only had it for about 2500 miles, but so far so good. I havent raced it yet but i definately have been beating the **** out of it. no slipping or anything. i guess ill post another comment when ive got a little more mileage on it.

On The Tree
Had a 3 spec on a 600 rwhp car that had too tall a gear, burned the clutch trying to slip the clutch through the bog. I called spec and they replaced it with a new 3+ for 200.00.
I was suprised they would stand behind their product when it was abused.
