Default Lost rubber gasket in master cylinder reservoir do I need it?

I put a gasket for a brake master cylinder in there, but is that good enough? If not where could I get just the gasket?

If it is completely sealed from the outside moisture and wont leak then its ok.
You dont want moisture in there.

If I have had it missing for several months (including washing car and rain), is it possible for the clutch fluid to be ruined?

Does brake fluid turn black when contaminated with water?
