Default Tranny wont go back in...

Me and my buddy are finishing up on installing the clutch.

The clutch went in fine, but when trying to slide the input shaft into the pilot bearing it wont go all the way in, leaves about an inch or two of space between the bell housing and the tranny.

Ive read somewhere else that it could be the slave has too much hydrolic pressure, but dont know if thats the case.

We even lubed up the pilot bearing and input shaft and still didnt work.

we had the clutch allignment tool in and it slid in and out like butter.

Any suggestions? This is really pissing me off, lol.

It took me a while to get mine back in. You have to make sure that the input shaft is in a direct line. If it's the least bit uneven, then you won't get it back in.

Just take your time, get it level, and it'll go into place.

My suggestion - get some longer bolts that are the same diameter and thread pitch as the tranny bolts, and CAREFULLY and equally tighten them down to pull it back in - then pull those out and put the stock bolts in and tighten.

My local Lowe's had some longer bolts...

Ive heard that you can use the other bolts that are longer (it does fit), im just worried that it might not be deep enough of a hole to thread the bolt in for it to pull the tranny close.

They've got some pretty long bolts...certainly worth a shot if it is getting late and you are getting pissed...I've been there. Of the three trans installs I've been involved with (two on my own car), two times it was a bitch and required some cinching with the bolts, and the last time, it just sucked itself right in (which was odd, but a nice surprise for once).

you can also get a cap for the rear of the tranny and that will help to turn the splines a bit to get them to line up and go in and also is the pilot bearing in all the way? are all the bolt wholes lining up? is the torque arm in the way? just ideas...

no big deal i had the same prb. just get it as close as u can have ur friend push and stuff and make sure its lined up and put in the drive shaft and spin it and push at the same time, thats how we got mine to work once it got close enought we threaded in the bolts and it sucked itself in.

I had the same issue and it was my pressure plate was tightened incorrectly and I left it a bit too saggy. I took out the tranny and made sure the alingment tool would be able to freely move about while everything was aligned then tightened it correctly in a criss-cross pattern then I put the tranny back in and it fit smoothly.

Sometimes alignment tools are sloppy.I prefer a tranny input shaft, expecially on dual disk clutch setups.

Now that's one hell of an alignment tool... Wish I had one laying around...
