growling into gear

growling into gear yesterday while driving my car, i noticed yet another noise. lol. it didn't matter if i was stopped or rolling. when i push the clutch in to go into a gear, i would get a faint growling sound as the shifter went into gear. i'm wondering if this is a clutch related problem or a tranny problem.
