1) do I need to get a different pilot bearing? The one that is in there is pretty new, stock GM. However, for some reason my slave cylinder had welded itself to the input shaft of transmission. T56 says this poss. happened due to slop in transmission. Should I get some sort of brass pilot bearing or some other? Do you have a part #? I need to know asap, as I'm installing transmission tomorrow and do not want to have slave ever weld itself to transmission again.

2) I need a new slave cylinder now, because T56 had to cut other one off. Do you have a part # that I could give to autozone or something?

You could get a brass pilot bushing if you wish, but I think a new pilot bearing would be fine. Just go to Auto Zone or whatever, and they can get the part number for you right away. They almost always have one in stock...very common item. They could probably also find you a brass bushing as well...it would be for an older model SBC equipped car, and all you'd have to do is compare the size of it to the pilot bearing to make sure it was the right one. Which one is right for you I have no idea...

Slave cylinder...same story. Go to whatever your favorite auto parts store is, and tell them what you're looking for. They usually have them as well.

Get a bronze pilot bushing, I paid $1.82 at a local auto parts store. That way you don't have to worry about needle bearings.

The grease surrounding the needle bearings dries up, and with no lubricant the needle bearings are pulverized. A friend of mine who is the shop foreman at a local Chevy dealer decided to replace the clutch on his 35 Anniv SS. When he pulled the PP off guess what, he couldn't even find any needle bearings. The tranny input shaft was just wobbling around. The car only had 12,000 miles on it.

But as far as the pilot bearings go, I've had great luck with mine...never lost a single needle bearing, and my last clutch was in for a long time...

hey michael, this is jason, i believe that we spoke ALOT over the summer.

1. id go with a bronze pilot bearing, its cheap and alot better than the stocker.

2. ya your favorite parts store should have one for you.

Any auto parts store will have the slave and pilot bearing. Tell them you need a pilot bushing for a 69 camaro with a muncie 4 speed.
