On a humerous note I guess it could have been a Cape Fear moment: when Deniro strapped himself to the driveshaft of the RV...only this time he had a tig welder dragging along under the car as he welded the disc to the plate. (Maybe at least someone will get this reference).

On a more serious note it definitely sounds like a key issue. Just hope it doesn't rear it ugly head again and start saving for a rebuild.

Just had the same thing happen to me, Basically everyone agrees that its a key issue. Therefore the tranny will need to be rebuilt correct. Mines running just fine the only problem is the shifter wont stay in third, I have to hold it in third, other than that everything works and sounds fine.

it's a broken slider key. It may be driving fine right now and hard for you to imagine that it's something that major but it is. You can get away driving it like this for a while but just know that it can and will get stuck in gear again.The tranny has to be torn down for this fix. Draining and changing fluid will do nothing. When you do fix it get yourself a set of billet slider keys so it wont happen again. Putting a stock slider key back in is just a waste cause it will happen again

hear this. I had a worn 3rd gear blocker ring. from forcing itno 3rd over and over, It caused my to break the 3/4th synchro hub keys. which caused it to get stuck in 4th.
