Are the T56 in a LT1 and LS1 the same?
I am going to be doing a tranny swap and am haveing a hard time finding a T56 from a LS1 but see tons from LT1 f-bodies. Are they the same transmission? Thanks, Brandon

The only problem might be the hydraulic throwout bearing used on the newer cars.I think the LT1 uses a clutch fork.Other than that,I think the case is the same.
I think it would be pretty cool to swap in a '93 non-G92 T-56.I've heard that first gear is really deep.

Weren't the LT1 T56 transmissions made by Borg-Warner and then the LS1 unit made by Tremec?
Don't know if that would play into an install issue.

The two 10mm bolt holes that hold the slave cylinder on the LS1 tranny do not exist on the LT1 tranny. The bellhousing is also different (duh ). the case is different up in that front area where the slave cyl goes.
Those slave cyl bolt holes are the biggest factor, I think. Not sure about input shaft dimensions or anything.
Maybe if you used the LS1 front plate (after disassembling the tranny ), slapping it on the LT1 tranny, use an LS1 bellhousing, everything else might work.
What I'm saying is I don't know.

The LT1 does have 2 10 mm bolts holding the slave cylinder to the bell housing. The slave cylinder rod pushes on the clutch fork that is connected to a throwout bearing. They are Borg Warner Transmissions and are supposedly stronger than LS1 trannies.

If you guys think the LS1 clutch is a problem, try the LT1! It's worse, pull style, VERY little can be done to increase holding power.

If your looking for answers to your questions (or looking for a T-56) go to www.ddperformance.com . They know the 56 inside and out. I doubt you'll get a LT1 to fit an LS1. Phoenix (one of our sponsors) use to carry used T-56's. Call them. I am going on my 4th tranny - all the same thing 3rd gear. I just replaced all the syncro and 3/4 gear shifter. 3rd gear is still ****.

The minimum you'd have to change would be the input shaft (part of 4th gear so the LS1 input shaft should work as 4th gear has always been 1-1 ratio) and the front housing. I had both side by side and those were the big differences. There were a few small things like the design of the reverse inhibit solenoid, but I think that is minor stuff. I'm not so sure on the strength thing, about 95% of the internal parts are exactly the same parts used in both.
