Default Best clutch kit >$400 for stock vehicle?

Hey guys I've just been through 50+ pages in the man.trans forum but still haven't quite found the answer to this question. What's the best sub $400 clutch kit for a stock d.d. and which sponser has it?
The clutch on my car was changed at 57k by the previous owner at the stealership so I think it's oem. The car's got 124k on the clock now and it's finally startin' to slip in the 1-2 shift on hard launches. Thanks for any info!

Stock car, daily driver? If you don't race it, I'd say go with an LS6 clutch, they're cheap and they're great for a daily driver. I have 80k on mine and it still grabs great.

dont mean to hijack here, but i had a few questions as well. Im about to be putting a new motor into my car (my stock one blew) and while im at it, i want to put a new clutch in. I was thinking either ls7 or ls6, is there a big difference between the two? my friend has the ls7 in his cammed car and likes it a lot. Also, I was getting a soft pedal and was told it was because of the bad slave cylinder and that it would be solved with the updated part (i have an 00). Should i get the master and the slave or just the slave? also the motor im putting in has heads and a small cam, but its mostly going to be seeing daily driving.

edit: also what about a throwout bearing and pilot bushing, where do i get those? and is there anything else i need? and does anyone have a writeup on how to change the slave? thanks!

Get master and slave updated. Also TBv and bushing from the dealership or wherever.

i agree! if you do choose to do some light mods in the future, it will hold up to 400hp.

I would go with the ls7, it feels stock but it will hold quite a bit of power. You can get an ls7 clutch kit and ls2 flywheel for like 400 at t56 rebuilds.

I'd stay away from the LS6...Its not going to handle moderate abuse for that long. I would recommend a Spec 3+ or LS7/2. I prefer to deal with a little chatter for a few hundred miles then have it smooth out knowing that it will take anything i can throw at it vs. constantly worrying about it.

Im installing a RAM HD this weekend. I plan on installing stock hydraulics and doing the drill mod at the same time, along with heat-wrapping my braided line.

I will post up some info about rebuilding the tranny myself and re-installing the new clutch/flywheel/hydraulics.

If you're getting nearly 70k miles from the stock clutch, the LS6 seems like a winner for you. If you recently bought the car and trashed the clutch it in 10k miles, you might think about going with something more rugged.

I agree, my first clutch was Ram clutches bolt-on clutch model and it lasted a total of 3k miles for me, One 6K launch on the slicks/skinnies is what really killed it. I went ahead and went with a Ram Powergrip HD with the Ram flywheel and this had been a flawless street/strip setup thus far If I wasnt soo hard on my car I would most likekly go with a more stockish clutch .

He got 70k out of his original LS1 clutch, which means he knows how to drive a stick. I have 80k on my LS6 and its still holding strong (400rwhp). These clutches are a lot stronger than people give them credit for. Granted, they're not for the drag strip, but he said he doesn't race his car.

My friend pounds on his 430+ rwhp with the Z06 clutch, slave, and adjustable master. You need that setup minimum. My experience with Spec was rough and vibratory, had to pull it back out and send it back for another one.

Hey I appreciate all the great input guys! Turo, I can't take credit for squeezin' 70k outta the stock clutch 'cuz I've only had the car for the past 3k. The previous owner was a wicked gear head/muscle car freak in his early 60's. He wasn't shy about tellin' me that his favorite thing to do was to go WRX huntin' with the car. So I don't think he exactly, babied it.

And no, I don't think I'll ever run slicks on this car. It's just my daily rocket ride, so I'm pretty content with the stock accel. / performance.

Im the current champ of stock clutches. I had 98K on a stocker with 465HP, I only took it out when i did the engine swap.

BTW with a post count like that you should know the price of every clutch/flywheel/hydros out there.
