Default First 6-Speed....Help!

This is my first Manual transmission that I own. I got on it a couple times today and it seems something is wrong. When I dump the clutch and get on it the stick shakes... sorta violently, its not a problem under regular driving, but when dumping the clutch off the line it shakes in the 1st position.

Is this normal or is there something I should get checked out? Maybe a trans mount? But it doesn't feel like this unless dumping in 1st.

that was the first thing i was going to check when i get off work today...but the trans doesn't bounce except when the wheels are spinning or when i'm going over bumps (they have to be a good size bump)

I will prolly replace it with the poly mount. any other ideas?

Are you getting wheel hop causing it to shake?

Also, I remember in my formula after I put the Pro5.0 in it, I got more noise and vibrations through it than the stocker.

Try this... put the car in first coasting around 4k RPMs... look at the shifter and peg the gas a couple times. If you see the shifter lift up when you're pegging the gas, then your tranny mount is broken.

Someone had me do this one time, and I thought to myself, "Nah, it won't move. I'd feel that." Holy crap, it moved up and down a good 1.5-2.0 inches. It was unbelievable that I hadn't already noticed. And yeah, the tranny mount was almost completely split in half.

guage Thanks I will try that, and I looked into it with the wheel hop thing because thats what I originally thought it was. The original owner called me today to talk about something un-fbody related and i inquired about the shaking. He said it happened to him sometimes, and usually it was wheel hop caused by the massive treads in these BF Goodrich tires (the tread depth is huge with big spaces for all weather)

I think thats probably what it is, But i'll replace the trans mount anyways for some more shock absorption through the tranny.

Thanks

It can also be a motor mount: either loose or broken. I have had that experience before.....

Proud2bSS is right. I'd try the tranny mount first, though. It's a LOT easier to change out.

One thing regarding the trans mount: There is also a rubber pad on the top of the transmission, forward of the shift. With the upgraded trans mount, this rubber pad fits snuggly up against the tunnel. This essentially places the transmission in a position where it can not vertically lift or drop.
