Anyone had starter problems after putting a new clutch in??

OK, I put in a new textralia clutch kit (with billet stee flywheel). This was a replacement clutch from Tex because my old one went out prematurely. Now, the old clutch worked perfect with the starter, no issues at all there.

Now, on to the new one. Went to crank it over and a terrible noise is coming from the starter area. Sounds exactly like the starter is too close to the flywheel. Got under the car to inspect, and it sure seems to me the starter is too close.

Now, the only change I have made is the flywheel. The bellhousing and starter worked fine before the new clutch.

Any ideas guys? I thought about using shims, but I was told you should not need them for an LS1. And, if it worked fine before with no shims I really would rather fix the problem then put some shims in.

You might need to shim it. Don't keep cranking it or you're liable to buy another starter.

Or your buddy may not have tightened down your ground strap? If I could only see into the future Pete. We could avoid all these problems. :burn:
