Reverse doesn't engage

I don't know what the issue is. Some have said the syncro's or maybe my linkage is jacked. I figure if it was the syncro's that something 1st through 6th would have gone first? The thing is that it only happens either if the car has been sittin, and when i'm out cruising for 10 minutes.

What could it be?

You need to elaborate more. Is it grinding? Are you unable to push the stick to full right beyond the 5-6 gate?

Definately need more info about it .

It will not allow for me to push over into reverse. It seems to be locked. All the other gears are fine. No grind 1st through 6th. Jus reverse wont go. You have to push hard off and to the right and then up. The clutch feels fine and doesnt feel like its goin out.

Are you throwing any codes? Something easy to check is the ENG SEN fuse for an open, one of the things on that circuit is the reverse lockout solenoid.

actually the service/check engine light has been comin on and off.

its the fuse for the reverse lock out, check the manual for the location and change it out if the metal inside the fuse is broke or looks burnt, Reverse will work like a charm after again.

hmm... i never thought about that. this could be the problem even though i can force it into reverse? the bad part is i dont have a owners manual. i bought the car used and the owner didnt have the manual or he didnt wanna give it up.

thunderdan74 Oct 19, 2007 05:28 AM

Yes it will cause that. If the fuse is fine, Check the 'noid, make sure it's plugged in.

definately an electrical problem

im having a similar problem... reverse wont 'take' ... if/when it does(sometimes takes 5-6 tries) it will kick it out of gear every so often(seems like its not in reverse all the way)... and if i get in in good, it wont kick out at all. all other gears work fine. could this be a fuse problem or am I looking at a rebuild in my near future?
