Default ZOOM MU/ big clutch ?? what ya think?

plan A. hey im lookin into a new clutch for my 99Z and i'm relly not trying to spend over 400 bucks, and i only have some BS bolt ons. so what are your thoughts on the zoom MU?

plan B. another option in my price range is the centerforce dual friction?

Question A. i see seperate listing for a 98-02 f-body, to a 93-97 f-body, which both use a 11", 1 1-8", 26 spline set ups. THEN i see a listing just for an 11", 1 1-8", 26 spline gm clutch. now can i run any of these on my 99z or is there differnces between them that will prevent me from bolting them up or fitting or any other problems that i might encounter?>

i appreciate any help u can give me.
thanks-karl

hmm really? let me tell you about my ZOOM experience. 1) install clutch 2) drive to work back and fourth four times 3) right at 300 miles clutch fails miserably and takes out my pressure plate, flywheel, throwout bearing, flywheel, and starter. 4) for the second time this month i get to pay $1200-$1600 for a new clucth!!!! 5) now i get to pay for a new starter too!!!!!!

stay away from zoom.

We thought that some of you would like to see proof rather than just read 'hear say'.

Mike Peters is a professional drifter and his weapon of chioce may appear to be a Nissan 240, but it packs a LS Magnacharged power plant that we thought would be a great test bed for a Zoom D2 twin disc clutch set up.

Now for those that have not had seat time in a drift car you should know that 'clutch kicking' is one of three techniques of initiating a drift. You'll see Mike doing so... at over 6000RPM in this video link!

PS. He installed this Twin Disc over a year ago and is still running it today!

Enjoy!

If anyone that has not thought of a clutch system yet or has newly added a power adder... may want to keep Zoom as an option.

Krazy

I have the ZOOM HP...I believe they no longer offer the "MU" for 93-97 but maybe in your model year they do. when I spoke with a ZOOM tech he said go with the HP disc with is kevlar/kevlar puc disc. I make about 400 hp at the wheels and even more TQ in a car that weighs 4400 lbs (not a f body) and the ZOOM holds fine at the track and is smooth on the street.

Don't know what the '98 & up clutchs are but I would think they are "push" PP vs. the "pull" PP of the 93-97. even though the clutch size & spline count is the same a "pull" clutch will not work in a "push" clutch car.

I have had SPEC, RAM, OEM (valeo) side by side with the ZOOM and my vote is the ZOOM. Disc construction, IMHO, is better. Killed my SPEC 2+ in 2000 miles.
