Default pros vs cons of turbo trans

hey guys i've had hell with my t56, from the 3 mounts ive broken to the now grinding and popping out of gear, so i'm thinking about putting my hands on a turbo 400 transmission since i will be adding some power down the line. but first, i'd like to know some of the common issues with this transmission. whether they be mechanical, or good things... pros and cons. thanks!

a lot of little things have to be done to get that in... th350 i think is a lot easier and u use your stock driveshaft if u get 9" tail

For a drag only car, no problem, cheap. Street car, forget it, no overdrive. I've got a M6 on my 408, runs just aren't repeatable, and am thinking about auto, 4L80E maybe. The $$$ are the problem.

A 400 will cost you more. But a tougher in general trans.
But the 350/400 ore only 3 speed auto's. 3rd being 1/1 drive with a locked converter. The T-56 has 4th as a 1/1 ratio & 5 & 6th are overdrives.
1/1 meaning the crank turns once the output shaft of the trans turns once.
You take the overdrive away in a street car , your throwing your milage away & adding wear & tear on the motor.

Default Th400

If you are looking for a 400 i have a new 1000hp built with trans break, a brand new precision 3800 stall converter, tci flexplate and 1 piece chromolly driveshaft with a b&m proratchet shifter. I would be willing to work out a deal with you for the hurt 6 speed if your interested email me at trbokmro@yahoo.com and i also have a really strong overdrive 4l60e and chromolly driveshaft and a 3500 precision stall with a thousand miles on them. Both tranys are built by mikes perfromance, I just want to go with a 6 speed again.

hmm. i'm glad to have learned this info. shouldn't there be a way to strengthen the tranny like the motor's bottom end? i'm not even making 400hp from the motor yet, i'm just experiencing some really wierd grinding noise when i engage in 1st and sometimes 2nd, whether warm or cold. And the motor will get built sooner or later i'm probably going to go FI in another year or so

I dont know all that much info about the two trannys, but I do know that the turbo 400 is tough as nails and pretty dependable. My dad has an '86 3/4 ton chevy k-series truck that he used for work and it has 330k miles on it. The transmission has never once had any kind of problem and has never been pulled from the truck for any reason. He does construction so he is always hauling something or using it for something and it has withstood everything that has been thrown at it. I also see alot of people using them at the local track.
