Default GTO Bell Housing vs. Camaro Bell Housing

Is the GTO 6-speed bell housing different from a Camaro bell housing? I cannot seem to get my LS1 starter to fit. I'm using an LQ9 engine. Am I using the wrong starter?

Please Help!!!

They are identical in every way but one, the lS2 housing has a smaller starter hole. You will most likely have to pick up an LS2 starter, I'm not sure if you could grind the housing to get it to fit.

I ran into this problem myself, and getting a starter was much more expensive than getting an LS1 bellhousing.

Yeah I would think finding an LS1 bellhousing would be cheaper as well .

GM Parts Direct sells the starter for around $240. I think a bell housing would be more than that.

I paid $150 for an LS1 Fbody bellhousing used, I believe it was (might have been less, actually, but it definitely wasn't more than that).

I was able to exchange my Camaro starter for a GTO starter for $139. Hope it fits.
