Clutch looses pressure and engages! HELP!
 

OK so here is the deal. I have a 98 ws6. I had a Stage 3 clutch and new slave cylinder installed a few months ago. The master cylinder was not replaced. My pedal was good and stiff until recently. Now it is feels really weak. If I push the pedal in quickly and release it seems to shift fine, but if I try to hold the clucth down, like say at a redlight after about 15 or 20 seconds it will begin to grab and the pedal will stick to the floor. With it out of gear the same thing happens. Push it quickly and it comes back up, but if I just set my foot on the pedal the weight of my foot will push it in after a few seconds. It feels like the pressure is just slowly bleeding off until it engages the clutch. My question is do you think I have a bad master cylinder since that's the only thing that wasn't replaced, or did I some how get air in the line? Can a clutch be fine for months, and then some trapped air starts giving you problems??? Thanks for any help!:confused:

I just had the exact same thing with mine. Its the master.

I bet that if you crawl under there and push the pedal in with your hand, you can listen carefully and actually hear the fluid being forced back up through the master. Thats pretty much what mine was doing.

In mine, the seals in the master were completely shot. I picked up a new stock master from gmpartsdirect and voila, just like new.

As was already mentioned, you probably need a new master. We have a new adjustable master out currently that offers a more complete release than the stock master for those high rpm shifts.

Thanks for the help I'll pick up a new master tomorrow. I just wasn't sure, because on previous cars when the master went out it was all at once. Thanks
