I'm thinking cam... I want a cam with good specs. I know what duration lift lobe sep. and valve overlap are, I just don't know what a good combo of them is. I want something good for the street but still pretty nasty. any recommendations? |
This is very subjective, and I am not a cam expert, but is your car an automatic or manual? What numbers are you trying to achieve? What are your plans for the car? Do you have supporting modifications? Is the car a daily driver, or does it just come out on nice days? What is your definition of nasty? Are you going to be running nitrous or forced induction at all? I probably wont be of any help outside of pulling this information out of you, so good luck in the future. |
im about to place my order tomorrow for tick perf poluter cam...they say its very driveable and sounds great, but best of all is the damn sexy torq numbers it puts out. and big enough to play baseball with... |

M6, not sure about numbers but I want good performance as well as driveablility, heads eventually and maybe nitrous, supporting mods:if you mean valvetrain, I am going to get bigger springs and try to avoid needing new rockers, not a daily driver. comes out sometimes on weekends. Not sure what my def of nasty is lol. no forced induction. |
I want mid-high end power without sacrificing too much low end power.. I'm thinking something like 220/224 .575/.580(ish) 110 LSA with stock rocker arms. Think that would be good? |

MTI X1 230/227 .591/.571 112 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DG65mcICyuY i love the sound of those cams |

As far as cam size well you can never fail with the 224/224 581.581 112 or 114 lsa. This cam is proven and Speedinc has mastered this cam as far as tuning. If I were you I would go with something bigger like 228/232 588.595 112 lsa, If you go with a bigger cam go right to Mike H. at Straightline Performance he can tune the hell out of a big cam car! You will not be disappointed. Good luck! |
What is better? high duration with high LSA or low with low? |
I drove my T/A with a 224*/224* 563"/563" on 112lsa ThunderRacing cam with 6 spd and 3.42 gear YEAR ROUND. Id say you can definately go bigger. |
i've got a 230/224 575 563 i just took out that i will let go for 200 bucks torque monster off idle and pulled decent up top |

What happened to the Nitrous idea man? Did I start making you think about what I said? :D Like I said, a cam will have power there all the time as oppsed to Nitrous that only makes power when you have a filled bottle! Either way man Good Luck and LMK if you need anything. As far as a cam, I'd say 232/236 .595 .598 on a 112! I think that would be a good low/mid range street cam that would make good power for what you want to do. I know what you like to do on the weekends... LOL  Damn it, now that I'm reading your post I'm thinking more and more about what I need to do next... Nitrous, suspension, Trans., Rearend, TIRES! and Etc..:bang: |

Better is relative, depends on what you want. A good street LSA to me is 112-114. Anything over 228/232 is pushing it as far as street manners unless you have a helluva tuner. Oh and Ethan, Heres my new Videos Of the Z...I will be out next weekend (weather permitting) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAf-SbJtL7M http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WWyqg...eature=related |
hey ethan that cam is on a 111 lsa it sounded pretty mean in my car and james is right power from a cam is always there and its a one time investment not an every saturday night investment |
cams are good, but i wouldn't compare it to n2o. even with a big cam you will still get your shit drug by a 100 shot bolt-on car. i see 3 lsx cams. stock, 230ish, trex. it sounds like you want a 230ish cam on xfi lobes with a 110-111 lsa. you'll still get hurt by minimal mod term cars. ;) i'd opt to keep my 25+ mpg and stock everything and throw on a 100-150 shot. add injectors and a fuel pump for safety and you'd be dragging cam only cars all day long for thousands of miles after they blow their shit up. the car will last forever and you won't have to worry about anything. cams require attention to the valvetrain (which more often gets noisier with aftermarket cams), plus you lose driveability and gas mileage. i've ridden in cars whose owners claim they "drive like stock". i see no comparison to a stock cam and anything over 224. i have a stock 99 car and it drives perfect. smooth as silk. i've ridden in cammed cars that drove nice for what they were, but doesn't even compare to a stock one. |
